RSVP on EventBrite. \n  \nEvent Details:\nDate: Friday\, October 20th\, 2023\nTime: 7:00 PM\nLocation: Tomorrow Records\nAddress: 700 SE Hawthorne\, Portland\n\nChoreographer\, performer\, and teacher Carla Mann creates dances for stage\, alternative sites\,installations\, and film. Her choreography has been supported by grants from the Oregon ArtsCommission\, the Regional Arts and Culture Council\, and the Dance Coalition of Oregon\, and includes works created for the Northwest Dance Project\, Portland Taiko\, Performance WorksNorthwest\, Muddy Feet\, Northwest Fusion\, Arts in the Arboretum\, Artquake\, On the Boards(Seattle)\, the Duncan Centre (Prague\, Czech Republic)\, the Kunming Youth Art School(Kunming\, China) and Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre/Northwest . An active performer in manyof her own choreographic works\, Carla has also performed with Oslund+Co/Dance\, DanceGatherer\, tEEth\, Troika Ranch\, Imago Theatre\, Bonnie Merrill\, Lynn Phelps\, JED\, theNavigators\, Cydney Wilkes\, Linda Austin\, and Benny Bell & Company\, and in projects bychoreographers Minh Tran (USA)\, Iris Erez (Israel) and choreographer Tahni Holt (USA andBulgaria). Carla serves as the Judy Massee Professor of Dance at Reed College. Her work indance is profiled in Emmaly Wiederholt and Gregory Bartning’s book\, Beauty is Experience:Dancing 50 and Beyond\, and on their website\, Stance on Dance. Her dance film\, Suddenly\, thesky… was most recently screened in Canada. \n \nSuzanne Chi is a dancer\, choreographer\, producer\, and co-founder of Muddy Feet Contemporary Dance. Based in Portland\, Oregon\, Muddy Feet serves as a platform for the development of dance films\, new work by Suzanne and co-artistic director Rachel Slater\, as well as other commissioned works by choreographers in the community. Suzanne’s solo performance is featured in Muddy Feet’s newest dance film\, Smoke Nocturne\, currently screening at the Portland Dance Film Festival. Suzanne has also danced in work by local choreographers including Minh Tran\, Carla Mann\, Dawn Stoppiello\, Tere Mathern\, Rachel Slater\, Lindsey Matheis\, Franco Nieto\, and Tracey Durbin\, and Tahni Holt. Suzanne’s dance performance has been showcased at Reed College with White Bird Dance\, the Northwest New Works Festival at On the Boards\, as a part of Velocity’s Bridge Project in Seattle\, at American Dance Abroad’s Spotlight festival in Plovdiv\, Bulgaria\, and at the Theater im Pumpenhaus in Münster\, Germany. She participated in the Bessie Schönberg Residency at the Yard on Martha’s Vineyard and presented choreography as part of Performance Works Northwest Alembic Residency. Suzanne earned her BA in Dance from Muhlenberg College and her graduate degree from the National College of Natural Medicine. She is also a board certified practitioner of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. \n \nAlexander Dones is an interdisciplinary artist from Portland\, Oregon with an emphasis on dance. Throughout his travels he has had the opportunity to perform\, choreograph\, and collaborate with various companies and choreographers including MOMIX\, Luna Negra Dance Theatre\, ArtLab J\, and others\, and he continues to work with internationally-acclaimed choreographer Doug Elkins. Alexander has had the privileged opportunity to travel throughout the United States & Canada as well as Europe and Asia performing & teaching at notable venues & festivals including the Joyce Theater\, Fall for Dance at City Center\, Jacob’s Pillow\, The Yard\, the Lobero Theatre\, Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar\, Newmark Theatre\, and others. In 2016\, Alexander was the sole artist representing the United States in Seoul\, South Korea where he performed & taught at the New Dance For Asia Festival. In 2020\, Alexander was commissioned by the Portland Dance Film Festival to create an original dance film titled HARBOR. Alexander is a certified member of Youth Protection Advocates in Dance\, an organization created “as a response and solution to various negative trends that commodify and exploit youth and adults in performing arts”. Currently\, Alexander teaches dance around the Portland-Metro area and continues to create his own independent works of various mediums under the name of soothsayer.
