An honorable celebration of the recent accomplishments by Portland-based artist Oliver Casillas, whose vibrant work continues to inspire and empower communities. Most recently, Oliver earned his Master’s degree in Arts Education and Expression at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, an achievement that reflects his deep commitment to both artistic practice and arts education. His return to Portland marks an exciting new chapter, and what’s a better way to celebrate than through community art.
Oliver Casillas is a Key Contributor to “Together We Bloom” at Las Adelitas
Many in the Portland Cully neighborhood may recognize Oliver’s work from the iconic mural “Together We Bloom” (Juntos Florecemos) at Las Adelitas, a housing development led by Hacienda CDC. Created in collaboration with lead artist Michelle Angela Ortiz, the mural was developed through meaningful engagement with local residents and stands as a vibrant tribute to community, culture, and resilience.
Oliver’s steady hand and creative insight were essential in bringing the mural to life. Working alongside Michelle and painting onsite during active construction, he helped translate stories from the Cully neighborhood into color, form, and symbolism that now live permanently on the walls of Las Adelitas.

Come make a mural! Now, you have the opportunity to work alongside Oliver himself in a mural painting workshop hosted by Heidi Duckler Dance Northwest. This workshop series will take place at Las Adelitas and is open to the community, all ages and experience levels welcomed. This event is open to the public, $15 donations encouraged.
